Today, students were introduced to their latest project, Afternoon of the Notables. After much deliberation and negotiation, students settled on the notable they are going to "become." This is primarily an in-class project, although students may need some assistance with coming up with a costume. Below is a handout of the project.
Below is the second part of The Arrival. Please don't read this until we get to this section of the book.
With the help of one of the students, we divided the file into two, so below is a copy of the first half of the Arrival
This week we started a graphic novel that contains no words, entitled The Arrival. We have only two copies of the book, so I am including a link to the first chapter if the students wish to review the book. Ido have a digital copy of the book, but the file is too big to upload. I will try to find links to other chapters and post them here as we read that part. The link is /www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nJKse-UCFM
A short reminder that picture day is tomorrow, Wednesday, October 18
Please bring five artifacts to school by Thursday. Place the artifacts in a plastic or paper bag that is nondescript. Make sure that none of the artifacts have a recognizable picture of you or your name on them. Below is a copy of the second stage of the artifact bag activity.
Today, students started writing their first instalment of their letters home. The letter home is a chance for the students to communicate with you, the parents, about what they have been doing in the humanities class. Every second Friday the students will write about things we have covered in class and then give it to the parents to read. It is my hope that you read the letter and then write some comment about their paragraph. If parents could please sign their name at the bottom of the writing piece it would be much appreciated.
Today I assigned the students a personal artifact worksheet for homework. In general, I will assign homework on Thursday and it will be due the following Tuesday. Each week, information about the homework can be found in the homework section of the blog. If parents could sign the homework in the space provided on each assignment it would be much appreciated.
